As I mentioned in this post about Vocal Placement, over the next few weeks I'm going to dedicate several posts to the awesome art of BELTING YOUR FACE OFF!

If you are totally new to the concept… I strongly suggest you check out the vocal placement post and the vocal placement video.

If you've been dying for new tricks to help you strengthen your belt… this is the post for you!

This video has 4 amazing tricks to help strengthen your belt instantly!

Before you jump in… make sure you are using proper basic singing technique. It's always a great idea to start with a basic vocal warm up before jumping into any sort of belting.

When bringing your chest voice up into your higher register, it's super important to make sure you

  • BREATHE DEEPLY with a full supported breath from the diaphragm.
  • WARM UP EASILY IN YOUR HEAD VOICE FIRST

If you can fully commit to those first two steps, you are ready for these tricks that will help unlock your full potential as a rock star performer who can belt his/her face off.

Here's a the 4 tricks as a reference. BUT, watch the video! This list is just a reference guide. These tips will make much more sense if you watch the video and try the tricks along with me.

1. HEY! (Give me back my lunch! aka Give me back my ipad!)

2. KEEP THE SOUND INSIDE YOUR MOUTH!

3. USE YOUR FIST TO PULL THE SOUND OUT OF YOUR EAR.

4. USE A WIDE HORIZONTAL OPENING.

I absolutely love these tricks as a way to help strengthen a vocal belt. I hope you do too! Please let me know if you have any questions. AND… this type of singing shouldn't hurt! If it does, stop! Send me a message or get your your voice teacher and find ways to eliminate tension so you don't hurt yourself while singing. : )
