3 Keys to Booking Media Features

You can't grow your business if people can't find you! So, visibility is something that every business needs in order grow, AND, when it comes to being featured in the media, there is no one I trust more than the Impacting Millions Team!

As a journalist, her articles have appeared in national publications like Money, Prevention, Cosmopolitan and Fitness. She has also been featured as a health expert on The Today Show, The Dr. Oz Show, The Doctors, FOX, NPR and more. When she’s not helping her clients put a megaphone to their message, she’s ghostwriting books and working as a nationally certified integrative health coach in New York City.

 

KEY #1 Do you know anybody who knows, anybody?

This is a matter of reaching out to your network, and asking if anyone has any connections to the outlets you are interested in pursuing. Don't forget, that sometimes it's not even six degrees of separation, your best friend may be someone who can connect you! We sometimes forget because they are close to us personally, so don't forget how cool your close friends are!

 

KEY #2 Get familiar with your chosen outlets

The last thing you want to do is pitch an idea or story that is not within an outlets demographics. Do your research, and be detailed in it. The more you come from a place of service the better, so be specific.

Example: You trying to get on a local morning show.

You won't fit every segment, so watch and take notes, find which segment you would be right for and make sure you put that in your pitch. You may not know it, but your pitch is most likely HELPING someone, so being the most helpful and specific with them, will only get you further in your connections, and help you get a response.

*IMPORTANT- Make sure you are watching your Copy/Paste. You don't want to send a pitch to someone with the editor of another outlet in the introduction.

 

Key #3 Choose your expert topics

Make a list of maybe three or four topics you are an expert in. You want to make sure that everything that you're pitching to these different outlets is coming through the lens of those expert topics. Yes, there will always be another way or another expert, but your personal story by definition is unique, and that is something that you can bring to the table so nobody else will. Nobody else is going to be looking at certain issues through the lens that you've been, because of those personal experiences.

 These are packets that are not meant for the average Joe, but almost every station, or media outlet has one, and has it available for FREE! They contain information on what they are looking for, specs, etc. Look for them usually placed at the bottom of a website, with the site links and when you find them, download and do that research!
